Golden Star Cleaning Service
Meet Shams and Elina co-directors of Golden Star Cleaning Service. Shams and Elina are from Afghanistan, they met through Mosaic Multicultural Connections and both undertook a specially-designed cleaning and business course through TAFE NSW.
Building on that, Hunter Adults Financial Collaborative has been able to provide the Golden Star directors with an overview of Australian business and taxation practices and ongoing advice. As a result of this mentoring they continue to earn new contracts and new clients as word spreads about the quality of their services.
Shams and Elina are thrilled to be providing employment for fellow refugees, particularly those less proficient in English who struggle to find work through traditional channels. They currently employ six staff and hope to grow Golden Star as a self-sustaining business, focused primarily on large commercial contracts that will provide ongoing employment for years to come!
HAFC is bridging the knowledge and experience gap through education and mentorship.

Balloons by Hamidah
This blossoming balloon bouquet business is owned and run by local wife and mother Hamidah. She creates unique balloon and floral arrangements for special occasions, along with key chains and other gift options.
To help Hamidah start her microbusiness, an HAFC mentor assisted her in obtaining a Tax File Number, an ABN, as well as purchasing stock and equipment. HAFC is assisting Hamidah to embrace social media marketing and providing her the skills to do so.

Mahasti’s Story
We would love to introduce one of our long standing clients, Mahasti. Currently studying a Masters of Education, we have assisted Mahasti to establish a home based clothing business selling Afghani clothing, jewellery and English learning aids.
In addition we have helped with her resume and cover letter to help her gain employment. We have employed her to present the computer course and to interpret at the resume writing course. We are thrilled to continue supporting Mahasti and her growing skillset.
