Newsletter July 2025
Following our July general meeting, Aradhana Grover has taken on the role of vice chair of the organisation, with a focus on community engagement. Dhananjay Sharma will become our public officer and will also participate in Marketing and Sales/Social Media activities associated with our soon-to-be-established sewing cluster. We will be starting our final sewing training program, sponsored by Hillview Op Shop, in early August, which will complete the necessary training for our sewing cluster team.
Our secretary, Cherylin, ran a very successful high tea for a group of our ladies’ supporters, which was attended by 53 people and raised some valuable funds to support our micro-businesses that offer employment to unemployed and isolated refugee women. We participated in the successful multicultural employer event organised by Hunter Local Jobs at the Wallsend Diggers Club. Doug, our treasurer, announced that he has organised a fund-raising event at Bunnings. He will provide the date and time at our next meeting so that our members and friends can test his cooking skills.
We have submitted several grant applications in the past month. We are hopeful that we will achieve some success, which will enable us to continue providing the numerous applications for support we receive daily. Clearly, the high cost of rent is causing severe financial stress on those who are disadvantaged and unemployed. As we move forward, we aim to form more relationships with like-minded organisations to improve the lives of disadvantaged unemployed adults in our community.
