HAFC’s Mission is to assist unemployed disadvantaged and often isolated adults in our community to gain some form of employment. The story of the “Survive the Future” Project which focused on up skilling long term unemployed and isolated Refugee Women in their sewing capability to enable us to form a sewing cluster. Training is completed and we now must source work for our large sewing cluster.

Tim Crakanthorp, State Member for Newcastle launching our online Clothing Alteration and Repair Service including School Uniforms at our major Sponsor Ian and Shirley Norman Foundation in Hunter Street. We offer pickup and delivery for all customer orders.

Pat Conroy MP Minister for defence industry of Australia and MP for Shortland visited Survivors are Us Sewing workshop in Cardiff where members of the sewing cluster work on customer orders under supervision of our highly qualified and talented trainer Lin Trigg. We thank Survivors are Us for providing the free use of their sewing workshop two days a week which is great for developing teamwork. We are also grateful to Pat for helping us to successfully gain funds to buy 6 new computers that we will us when training disadvantaged unemployed adults in the use of computers in relation to potential employment opportunities.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Mark Webster, Projects Team Leader from Hillview Op Shop at Morisset, to see the cluster in action. They are one of the major sponsors of the Refugee Sewing Cluster led by Faranaz, the team leader.

Our drive is presently focusing on School Uniform alterations and repair. We are connecting with as many schools’ uniform shops as possible with a view to provide a service that has a major social impact on the refugee women in our sewing cluster.
